The President of the National Shea Products Association of Nigeria (NASPAN), Mohammed Ahmed Kontagora who doubles as the Chairman/CEO Shea Agro Nig. Ltd officially flagged off the 2025 Shea Nut Purchasing Season in Bida, Niger state, Nigeria. This event marks the formal commencement of agro-business activities in the state for the year.
In his keynote address, Mr. Kontagora emphasized the importance of quality in Shea nut trading. He called on all critical stakeholders, particularly buyers, to prioritize the purchase of premium quality Shea nuts, stressing that high-grade inputs are essential for producing superior Shea butter and for promoting Nigeria’s Shea products on the global market.
As part of efforts to ensure quality control throughout the season, the NASPAN President also inaugurated a Monitoring Task Force Team. The team is mandated to monitor and enforce quality standards across the supply chain within the state. Mr. Kontagora urged the team to carry out their responsibilities with diligence and integrity, in accordance with the terms of reference provided to them.
Earlier, the representative of Estu Nupe His Royal Highness Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar who was represented by chiroman Nupe Kpakonyanpka blessed the event with royal blessings and urge the Shea Nut processors to process quality nut in order to get premium value for their products
The Estu Nupe also called on the Government at all levels to enforce laws that will prohibit people from cutting down Shea trees in the state and the country at large.
The 2025 Shea nut season is expected to boost the local economy, improve farmer incomes, and enhance Nigeria’s reputation in the international Shea market.
